Lengthy Car Chase Leads To Charges

A man led police on a chase into Allen County Friday Night, according to a news release from the Syracuse Police Department.
Bobby Joe Edwards, 30, of 15012 S. County Line Road, was booked into Kosciusko Jail on charges of auto theft and driving while suspended.
At approximately 9:07 p.m. Friday, a Syracuse officer attempted to stop a vehicle that had been reported stolen in Syracuse. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle in the area of Bowser Road and CR 300E, Syracuse. The suspect vehicle fled at a high rate of speed.
The pursuit continued south on Syracuse-Webster Road, west on CR 650N and south on Ind. 13 where the vehicle turned east onto U.S. 30. The vehicle continued east on U.S. 30 into Whitley County, were the vehicle successfully struck Stop Sticks that had been deployed by police on U.S. 30.
Upon striking the Stop Sticks, the vehicle continued east on U.S. 30, traveling in the westbound lane. The vehicle then continued into Allen County and into the city of Fort Wayne.
Due to extensive damage, the vehicle finally stopped at State Boulevard and Edgehill Avenue. Upon the vehicle stopping, a brief standoff occurred whereas the subject held a screw gun to his head.
A negotiator from Allen County was able to talk the suspect out of the vehicle, whereas he was taken into custody without further incident.
The Syracuse Police Department was assisted in the pursuit by North Webster, Pierceton, Winona Lake, Columbia City and Fort Wayne and Indiana State police departments, along with Kosciusko, Whitley and Allen County sheriff’s departments.
