The Last Monday Euchre Club met at the Warsaw Senior Center on Feb. 27.
High winner was Mary Grubbs, most lones was Pat Doyle and low was Kathy Jagodzinki.
The next meeting will be at 12:30 p.m. March 27 at the Warsaw Senior Center.
Four Seasons Ladies Bridge
The Four Seasons Ladies Bridge Group met March 1 at the Wyndham Garden Hotel.
Winners were Peg Zimmerman, Paulene Holderman, Erma Swank and Nancy Dalton.
Wednesday Night Bridge Group
Six tables of the Wednesday Night Bridge Group got together March 1.
Winners were Joan Kizer, Dorothy Herring, Virginia Horn, Joyce Latta, Joan Earhart, Bob Mayer and Babs Haines.
John and Janet Wagley are host and hostess for March.
Daughters Of The American Revolution
Agnes Pruyn Chapman DAR met at noon Feb. 28 at Richards Restaurant, Warsaw, with 10 members and three guests present.
Paulene Holderman led the opening rituals. Following lunch, Holderman introduced the speakers, Wendy Mang and Aimee Kintzel. Wendy works for the American Cancer Society and focuses on Relay for Life. Relay for Life is the Cancer Society's signature fundraising event and was started in Kosciusko County in 1989. She has been with the Cancer Society for five years and is a cancer survivor. Aimee is the county's event leader. This year’s Relay for Life will be May 13 from noon to midnight at Quaker Haven Camp on Dewart Lake.
Cheryl Faris gave the national defense report on preserving memories of World War I. This is the lOOth anniversary of WWI, which at one time was referred to as the "Great War."
Janice Cox received a letter telling of the death of a member, Janet Bartol Scherzinger, in Texas on Jan. 16.
There was discussion on the DAR conferences coming up this summer. The state conference will be in Indianapolis May 19-21. Continental Congress will be in Washington, D.C., June 28-July 2. The Northern Indiana District meeting will be Aug. 11 in Wabash.
The group’s next meeting will be at noon March 28 at Richards, with Martha Cesco and Susan Creamer as hostess committee. The program will be the Good Citizen and American History winners.
Membership in Daughters of the American Revolution is open to any woman who had an ancestor who fought in or aided the patriot cause during the American Revolution. Contact Kathy Gawthrop at 260-982-7055 with any questions.
Winona Literary Club
After a winter break, the Winona Literary Club met March 1 at the Robin Hood Community Center, which was decorated with rainbows and shamrocks. Hostesses were Phyllis Burkholder and Marcia South.
President Carol Volkers opened the meeting. Phyllis Dunlap led the collect and offered prayer.
Judy Widbin introduced Marty Becker and the program, the Life and Music of Hoagy Carmichael. Wally Brath played piano and Ben Essick, bass. A program of jazz started with “Up the Lazy River,” and was followed by “Stardust” and “Georgia on My Mind, and ended with group singing of “Heart and Soul.” Becker's history of Carmichael was accompanied by film, giving a glimpse of the man recognized as an inventive, sophisticated and jazz-oriented craftsmen of pop songs in the first half of the 20th century.
Fellowship and refreshments were enjoyed after a short business meeting.
Singles Meeting Friends
Singles Meeting Friends met on a snowy Wednesday at Martin’s.
The group is mourning the loss of member Rex. There were several sympathy cards for the passing of family members as well.
The group meets at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays at Martin’s.
