QuickMAR is an electronic medication administration system proven to increase medication oversight and reduce errors, according to a news release from Cardinal Services.
In residential, community living and day services programs, Cardinal staff work with 138 individuals who receive a variety of services including assistance with medication. Over the course of a single year, approximately 500,000 meds are provided to these individuals. Although Cardinal has just a 0.16 percent error rating, QuickMAR can reduce that number even further.
“Cardinal strives to provide the best possible services and this is another step toward excellence,” said Cardinal CEO Randy Hall.
The system increases efficiency in a number of ways. It cuts down on human error by eliminating the need for manual transcription of prescriptions and instead creates constant communication between Cardinal staff, the pharmacist and the doctor. In addition, built-in notifications will be sent to staff, supervisors and nurses if meds are late or any other issues are discovered. Through tracking and reports, the tool will provide each person’s team a more accurate picture of their medical needs and issues that should be addressed.
Cardinal began using QuickMAR with a test group in October. Pleased with the results, additional Cardinal locations (group homes, apartments and classrooms) will be provided computers as they become available.
