Letter Stirs Controversy

It seems a recent letter of mine stirred some controversy.

I would maintain that the controversy was already there. I mentioned no names of officers or of my "sources" in my previous letter and I will not mention them now. Revealing my "sources" would be a breach of trust and I will not do it, period.

This is a situation that needs to be handled in the appropriate way. An independent commission to review interactions between law enforcement entities is a legitimate request coming from a taxpayer that supports both entities through businesses and property taxes in both jurisdictions. There has been a long festering problem between departments going back years. This is no secret. It has finally come to a head with the sheriff being disgraced and removed from office. My point was and still is that it is time to resolve this situation. Attempting to sweep it under the rug will not work.

One letter stated that I only added gasoline to the fire. I disagree. Why was there a fire in the first place? Why hasn't this been handled before it erupted into the mess it became? I rarely write a letter to the editor. When I do, it is something that I consider important. This is important.

It is vitally important with the enforcement issues our two departments have to deal with on a daily basis that they be able to work together on those issues. It is in the best interest of the community and law enforcement personnel to get this resolved and to put in place proper protocol so that it doesn't happen again.
