Area Players Earn ICGSA All-State Honors

INDIANAPOLIS – Several Times-Union area softball players earned all-state honors for the 2017 season from the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association.

Wawasee senior and Huntington University signee Meghan Fretz was named to the Class 4A/3A third team and played for the North squad in the ICGSA All-Star game on Saturday. Wawasee coach Mike Barger served as an assistant on the North team.

Joining Fretz on the All-Star team was soon-to-be Lady Forester teammate and  Whitko senior Kennedy Krull. The Lady Wildcat was named to the Class 1A/2A second team.

Whitko sophomore pitcher Ellie Snep was named to the Class 1A/2A first team. Junior outfielder Taytum Hargrave of Triton and senior pitcher Brooklyn Howard of Manchester were also among the 25 players who earned first-team honors.

Whitko sophomore catcher Emalee Duggins joined Lady Wildcat teammate Krull on the second team.

Triton junior infielder Nichole Sechrist was named to the third team.

Wawasee won the school’s first 3A regional championship, and Whitko won its first 2A regional title this season.
