Thomas Rhea "Tom" White, 79, Syracuse, passed away at 8:59 p.m. Friday, June 16, 2017, at his home. 

He was born Oct. 19, 1937, in Auburn, Ky., to Mendel Douglas and Mattie Penrod White. 

He graduated in 1956 from Kaiser High School, Dayton, Ohio, and was a United States Air Force veteran. He was raised in Dayton, moved to Goshen, and then to Syracuse in 1978.  He was married on Sept. 19, 1987, in Syracuse, to Karen Sue Plank Noel Larimer. 

He retired from Johnson Controls in Goshen after 25 years, then he worked part time for Sweet Corn Charlie’s in Syracuse during the summer.

He was a member and deacon of North Webster Church of Brethren; American Legion Post 223, Syracuse; and the VFW in Syracuse. He was an avid University of Kentucky fan.  

He is survived by his wife, Karen White, Syracuse; daughter, Susan Irene (Jay) Wicks, Elkhart; son, Richard (Linda) White, Dayton; two stepdaughters, Tamara (Michael) Kiefer, New Palestine, and Holli Fishburn, Greenwood; a stepson, Michael (Chris) Noel Jr., Milford; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters: Delores “Dee” Szucs, Charleston, S.C.; Reba Janice (George) Brooks, Edgewater, Fla.; and Kay (David) Anglemyer, Goshen; and two brothers, Mendel “Butch” (Mary) White, Rock Hill, S.C., and Greg (Donna) White, Pleasant Hill, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Charles White.

Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, June 24, at Church of the Brethren, 7281 E. 600N, North Webster. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. in the church with Pastor Bob Wyman officiating. 

Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, Warsaw. Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse, is in charge of arrangements.
