Record-Setting Day At Golf State Finals

Center Grove, trailing Carmel by six strokes after Tuesday’s round, carded a four-man score of 281 Wednesday and won with a 36-hole score of 573.
Wednesday’s round set an 18-hole state finals record, beating the previous mark of 283 set by Columbus North (2011) and Noblesville (2013) at The Legends in Franklin.
The two-day total was also a state finals record, beating the 575 that Westfield shot in 2013 at The Legends.
En route to the championship, Center Grove had three individuals finish among the top six players in the 100-person tournament.
Junior Noah Gillard took medalist honors with a 36-hole score of 138, as he fired a 66 on Wednesday. Perry Meridian senior Nick Osterburg was second, two strokes back, after firing 70 both days.
Center Grove junior Sam Jean was third at 143, while senior teammate Ethan Shepherd carded a two-day total of 144.
Among Times-Union area competitors, Manchester freshman Harley Kruschwitz tied for 69th with his total of 161.
Kruschwitz was 8-over on the par 72 course Tuesday and 9-over on Wednesday.
Warsaw junior Sam Yeager, also making his first appearance in the state finals, finished in a tie for 88th.
Yeager, who like Kruschwitz advanced from the regional by shooting a 73 at Stonehenge, carded a 36-hole score of 167.
Yeager shot 83 on Tuesday and 84 on Wednesday.
Carmel finished second as a team, 13 strokes behind Center Grove.
Westfield (594), Noblesville (598) and Columbus North (608) rounded out the top five of the 15 teams.
Of the teams that advanced from the regional at Stonehenge, Bishop Dwenger was 10th (623), Homestead (624) 11th and Carroll (658) 15th.
Carmel’s Kevin Stone was the mental attitude award recipient.
