LeMasters gave an update on the corporation’s building projects to the school board of trustees at its meeting Tuesday.
He reported the walls at Washington STEM Academy are being pushed out a little.
School officials noticed a discrepancy between the blueprint of the expansion plan and the work that was completed by the construction company, Performance Services.
Washington was one of the schools to go through a major renovation as part of a referendum.
Superintendent Dr. David Hoffert said the confusion happened with some of their classrooms that had collaboration rooms. The collaboration area was counted as part of one room and that wasn’t what the plan was.
“We believe it was an honest mistake,” Hoffert said. He added the negotiations with the company went well and the company agreed to fix the problem free of charge.
“We worked with a very reputable company,” he said.
Even with this one mistake, Hoffert said the building projects were kept on schedule and under budget.
“We just wanted to make sure we got what we paid for,” LeMasters said.
Work on Washington should be ready by the time the students come back in the fall, he said.
WCS is still working on the expansion of the cafeterias at three schools: Harrison and Eisenhower elementary schools and Warsaw Community High School.
The elementary schools should be finished by the fall, but the high school is a longer project.
The high school expansion has not been put out for bid yet.
“We’re looking at about a year and half project there,” Hoffert said.
LeMasters said the project at Harrison was delayed by about five days, but he expects them to make up the lost time.
The Eisenhower expansion is on schedule.
