NORTH MANCHESTER — Marcia Kay Hines Ousley, 68, North Manchester, passed away at 12:32 a.m. June 6, 2017.

Marcia was born in the Rochester  hospital to Asa and Mildred Morrett Hines on Jan. 11, 1949. She married her special bud, Homer Ousley Jr., on Aug.11, 1979.

Marcia graduated top of her Manchester High School class in 1967, received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Ball State University in 1971, master’s degree from St. Francis University in 1972 and reading recovery from Purdue.

Marcia was a beloved teacher to her many students. In earlier years she taught third-graders at Maple Park Elementary School in Manchester Community Schools. After getting married, she taught kindergarten, fifth- and third  grade students in the Tippy Valley school system at Burket Elementary. She taught nearly 30 years.

She was nominated by her former students and received the Distinguished Dekko Award for Teaching Excellence in 1996 and again in 2003. She often sent encouraging letters to her students all through their school years and beyond.

She was faithful and active in church; visited many in nursing homes; volunteered at Silver Lake pantry; helped others; and sent uplifting notes, cards and gifts.

She enjoyed walking, flower gardening, reading and sharing God’s kindness.

Marcia loved her family, friends and neighbors. They loved her right back. She was very caring, understanding and loving and will be missed by many.

She is survived by her husband, Homer Ousley; niece, Lisa (Hines) Armey; great-niece, Mariah (Austin) Bennett; great-great-nephew, Dustin Bennett; and her brother, Brent Hines.

Family and friends may call from 2-7 p.m. Friday, June 9, at McKee Mortuary, 1401 Ind. 114W, North Manchester. A hymn service will be from 7-8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary, led by Pastor Edward Akins.

The service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 10, with calling one hour prior, at Gospel Hill Pentecostal Church of God, 303 S. Jefferson St., Silver Lake. The Rev. Frank Whitaker will officiate. Burial will be in Akron Cemetery, where her parents, maternal grandparents, great-grandparents, maternal aunt and paternal uncle are at rest.

For those who wish to honor the memory of Marcia Ousley, the family requests that you spread random acts of kindness, pray for another — be a rainbow in someone’s cloud!
