Aaron Leedy, TVSC director of marketing, public relations and grant writing, said the partnership was to “help advance wellness-based programs and services throughout the school corporation and community.”
He said it was a partnership that everyone was very excited about. “And what this will do is it will focus on the needs of all K through 12 students in the Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation, the staff and the communities that the school corporation serves, and obviously Mentone is a very big part of the Tippecanoe Valley community,” he said.
Leedy said the partnership will serve two primary areas: mental health/wellness and physical health/wellness. He said they came up with a slogan for the partnership, which is “Partners in Wellness. Strength in Community.”
“This partnership will allow the school corporation priority access to a lot of the programs and services provided by Lutheran Health Network KCH,” Leedy said.
The two entities have been working on the partnership for a few months. A?committee comprised of members from both organizations was formed to assess the current needs of TVSC.
“Some of the immediate plans ... are to upgrade the playground areas at the Burket Educational Center and Mentone Elementary School. We also want to bring the Student Assistance Program to all of our schools within the corporation. The Student Assistance Program was created to provide Tippecanoe Valley High School students with two free pre-paid counseling sessions at any Bowen Center outpatient location. We will bring that service not just to the high school, but all of the schools within our corporation,” Leedy stated.
Lastly, he said through the partnership they hope to provide additional work and career-based experiences for students in the medical field and more education on nutrition and healthy eating.
In a news release, TVSC Superintendent Brett Boggs said, “We also hope to pursue the possibility of an on-site health clinic that will benefit TVSC employees and possibly partners within the community. Enhancing the Valley Strong strength and conditioning program is another area of need.”
KCH CEO Kirk Ray said, “As we continue to grow our partnerships with area schools, we look forward to working with Tippecanoe Schools through this long-term relationship. We anticipate providing health education opportunities and enhancing health care services for both the school system and community.”
“The Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation is pleased to form this partnership with Lutheran/KCH. The partnership promises to benefit our students, staff and the community for years to come,” Boggs said.
Valley’s and Lutheran/KCH’s representatives then walked together in Saturday’s parade.
