Richard Gene “Dick” Hyde, 82, a longtime Osage/Park Rapids, Minn., area resident, formerly of Warsaw, peacefully entered eternity at his home in Park Rapids on Thursday, July 20, 2017.

Dick was born April 20, 1935, in Warsaw, to Walter and Irene Holloway Hyde. He attended public schools and grew into manhood in Warsaw, where he graduated from high school with the class of 1953. Dick then went on to attend business college in South Bend to prepare himself for his life’s work.

On Feb. 6, 1954, he was united in marriage to Barbara Faye Grubbs in Warsaw. This union was blessed with four children: Robin, Bob, Molly and Roger.

Dick worked for Sun Metal production company, where he worked his way up to vice president of manufacturing. He was able to take early retirement in 1984, when he moved to live full-time at his lake home north of Osage. After some time, Dick found the need to keep busy, so he gained employment working as a dispatcher for Holmer Trucking Inc. in a second career that spanned over 15 years.

Dick enjoyed fishing, golfing and bowling. He was a very talented bowler and was inducted into the Warsaw Bowlers Hall of Fame. In the early 1970s, Dick was selected as one of Warsaw’s best amateur bowlers to go up against the Stroh’s Professional Bowling Team and he served his community very well in that competition. Even late in life, he was still competing on men’s leagues in Park Rapids and Detroit Lakes. He often enjoyed getting together with his friends Jerry Holmer and Carl Sundquist to discuss current affairs over a cup of coffee.

He will be lovingly remembered by his three children: Robin (Mark) Eakes, Mount Juliet, Tenn.; Molly Mortimer, Biloxi, Miss.; and Roger Hyde, Warsaw; four grandchildren: Denise Ferrell, John Robert Eakes, Lesley Anne Eakes and Joshua Hyde; three great-grandchildren: Justin, Maci and Vivianna; as well as his good friends Jerry and Mary Holmer of Osage and Carl Sundquist of Park Rapids.

Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; his son, Bob; and a sister, Judy.

Graveside services are planned for 9 a.m. Thursday, July 27, at Oakwood Cemetery, 421 North Maple Ave., Warsaw, with Rev. Bob Ford officiating.

Jones-Pearson Funeral Home, Park Rapids, assisted with arrangements.
