Gary G. Lyon, 75, of Warsaw, passed away Friday, July 21, 2017, at 2:45 a.m. in Miller’s Merry Manor of Warsaw.

He was born on Sept. 29, 1941, in Elkhart to Dean and Betty Jean Horne Lyon.

He faithfully served his country and the United States Army as an E-5 from 1959-1962 and was honorably discharged. On Aug. 10, 1963, Gary married Sharon Mayhousen in Elkhart. He was a Warsaw resident since 1966.

From 1968-1988, he was employed by Lake City Bank and retired as the senior vice president of personnel. He graduated from the School of Banking in Wisconsin in 1984. From 1988-1998 he was an independent insurance agent with Hall and Marose Insurance Agency. In 1998, Gary graduated from the Purdue School of Nursing as a registered nurse. He was the executive director of Kosciusko County Home Health Care and Hospice from 2000 to 2004. From 2010-2014, he was a registered nurse with Suncoast Hospice. Gary was also the author of the “Lyon’s Den” column in the Times-Union newspaper, of which he was quite proud.

He was a member of St. Anne’s Episcopal Church. Other social affiliations include and are hallmarks of his career and civic involvement include the following: board member of Junior Achievement of Kosciusko County from 1970-1973; Outstanding Jaycee of Region II in 1971; Outstanding State Chairman of U.S. Jaycees of Portland, Ore., in 1972; president of Plan Parenthood of Kosciusko County from 1973-1975; president of Warsaw Jaycees in 1973; Kosciusko County chairman for the Vietnam MIA Bracelet Project from 1973-1974;  Senator of Jaycee International in 1974; campaign treasurer of Cardinal Learning Center in 1974; budget and admission chairman of United Way from 1975-1978;  Warsaw Chamber of Commerce member from 1978-1981; board member of Kosciusko Mental Health Association from 1981-1983; Warsaw Chamber of Commerce member from 1983-1986; chairman, Kosciusko County Health Care Taskforce, 1983: co-chairman of Kosciusko County Summer Soccer League from 1985-1986; co-founder of St. Anne’s Mens’ Society in 1986; also in 2001 the Heart of Gold Award was presented to Gary by the Kosciusko County Community Foundation.

Gary is survived by his wife, Sharon Lyon of Warsaw; two sons, Areck (spouse Lisa) Lyon, Warsaw, and Kevin Lyon, Indianapolis; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Terry Lyon.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 24, 2017, from 5 to 8 p.m. in St Anne’s Episcopal Church.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church on Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Corrine Hodges will officiate the service. Interment will be in St. Anne’s Columbarium following the service.
