WINONA LAKE – A potential vacation of lake front right of way was discussed during the town council meeting Monday night.

Stephen Snyder, lawyer for the Jean Gailers Trust,  proposed the town vacate the right of way near Hamilton Boulevard and Lakeshore Drive.

The biggest stumbling block is a boat ramp off of Lakeshore Drive.

Snyder proposed several alternatives, such as vacating the entire area asked for but leaving the boat ramp for public use; or having the town keep the north 40 feet of the right of way to still allow the public access to the boat ramp.

The council voted unanimously to table the plan in order to get more information about the options available.

In other business, the council unanimously approved the budget calendar submitted by Clerk-Treasurer Kent Adams.

The schedule will begin with a study session on Aug. 8 at 6 p.m. The plan will culminate with the budget adoption on Oct. 17.

Also, town engineer Larry Long said that he plans to retire in September. He has recommended T & E Inc., Fort Wayne, to take his place.
