PIERCETON — Marvin L. “Bubba” Hartley, 81, Pierceton, passed away at 7:40 a.m. Tuesday July 18, 2017, in his residence. 

He was born Jan. 23, 1936, to Wallace and Margaret Henry Hartley in Portland.

Marvin served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1958. He was an ammunition supply specialist.

On Sept. 5, 1970, he married Thelma Farmer in Middletown. 

He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Pierceton, and American Legion Post 253, North Webster.

He has been in Kosciusko County since 1985.

He was a commercial truck driver for many years. He retired in 1994.

Marvin enjoyed being with his family and grandchildren, woodworking, fishing, airplanes and the lake.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma Hartley, Pierceton; his children: James (Candy) Hartley, Muncie; Kenny (Missy) Farmer, Syracuse; Ricky Bowen, Pierceton; Tammy Thomas (fiancé Darrell Meyerink), Pierceton; Chad Hartley, Ossian; and David (Holli) Hartley, Warsaw; a sister, Phyllis (Don) Meyers, Muncie; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded by his parents, a brother and a son, Robert Hartley.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Saturday, July 22, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Pierceton. There will be a procession from the funeral chapel to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Pierceton, for a Mass of Christian Service starting at 1 p.m. Monsignor Bernard Galic will officiate. 

Military honors by American Legion Post 253 and the military honor guard will immediately follow the Mass.

Interment will be at a later date.
