Daniel Hugo Duenas, 19,?of 2326 E. Pierceton Road, Winona Lake, was already facing a charge of felony aggravated battery.
The Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office added the charge of manslaughter, a level 2 felony, this morning.
Duenas was arrested Feb. 17 after police say he ran over and killed Derek Davidson, 29, South Bend, after a drug deal went bad.
Police say Davidson, along with his brother-in-law Jarred Miller, were meeting Duenas to buy drugs and Davidson entered Duenas’ car and robbed him of his drugs, according to court records.
Duenas was going to sell the men 11 grams of marijuana, the affidavit states.
After the men got out of the car, a confrontation ensued in which Davidson allegedly punched Duenas in the face.
Police allege Duenas got in his car and backed into Davidson for punching him. Duenas then moved his car forward and backward as Davidson was pinned under the car.
Duenas told police he was trying to get the car unstuck.
Duenas exited the car and asked Miller if he had killed Davidson.
“Yeah, you killed him,” Miller said, according to the affidavit.
Duenas then fled the scene and was later arrested by an Indiana State Police trooper a few blocks away.
Miller told police he believed Duenas owed the men $60 and the confrontation was over the debt, the affidavit states.
Duenas is currently being held in the Kosciusko County Jail on a $25,250 bond.
