Faye Marie Meier, of Grace Village Retirement Community, Winona Lake, passed away at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at Grace Village Health Care, at the age of 81.

She was born on April 7, 1936, in Valparaiso to Ocie Esther Clark and Arthur Holmgren. On Nov. 28, 1959, she was married to E. Jack Meier, who survives in Winona Lake.

Faye was a 1955 graduate of La Crosse High School in La Crosse. She attended Purdue University in West Lafayette and received her bachelor’s degree in interior decorating in 1959 and her master’s degree in education in 1961. Faye was a resident of Kosciusko County for the past 27 years. She will be dearly missed and forever loved by her friends and family.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 57 years, E. Jack Meier, Winona Lake; three brothers: John Holmgren, LaCrosse; Ray Holmgren, Portland, Ore.; and Dennis Holmgren, Indianapolis.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

Faye's journey with Jack started at a snow-covered outing at Purdue University. By their senior year, marriage was being discussed. Graduation was completed in June 1959 and marriage was performed on Nov. 28, 1959, in LaPorte. Jack had a military assignment in early 1960 and Faye was asked and taught elementary education in her home town of LaCrosse. Upon Jack's return, they relocated to Crawfordsville, where Faye worked as an interior decorator and then completed her advanced education degree and taught in the Crawfordsville.

In 1970, they moved to Lancaster, Pa., where they lived the next 10 years. Jack continued to be employed for R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co and Faye obtained a high school teaching assignment for the Lititz, Pa., school system. During her tenure there, Faye was also the golf coach for several years as well as being director of the senior proms.

Relocation was again finalized to Warsaw in 1980 as Jack continued with R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co. Faye was asked to join the Warsaw school system as a high school teacher in 1981 where she taught seniors English for the next 14 years, retiring in 1995. Jack had also retired so they moved again to Bowling Green, Ky., in 1995 as Jack had joined another printing company. Faye also worked as a teacher for the local Bowling Green school system.

Faye and Jack relocated to Fishers in 2000 and then decided to build a home in Winona Lake in 2005 where they resided until Faye joined Grace Village Long Term Care in November 2010 until her passing.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 18, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw. There will also be time for visiting prior to the service on Wednesday, July 19, from 10 to 11 a.m.

Her funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 19, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home and officiated by Chaplain Bryan Benjamin and the Rev. Richard Anderson. Burial will follow with a graveside service at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso.

Chip Shots: How Callous IS It?
For every 700 to 1,000 words of mine you read on any given Saturday, I have a list of callous, cynical thoughts and remarks I can make about the topics I discuss… easily five-fold of what I allow past my filter and, in turn, e-mail to my editor.
