Nathan Shepherd, Warsaw, celebrated his 80th birthday on Thursday.

Nathan was born July 13, 1937, in Kentucky, to Sylvester and Nancy Shepherd. He joined the U.S. Army at age 17 by using a fake birth certificate.

He has lived most of his life in the Kosciusko County area, retiring from Dalton Foundries after 32½ years of service.

Nathan will celebrate his birthday Sunday with his family: Juanita Shepherd, his wife of 51 years; and his children: Krystal (Burt) Scarlett, Dale (Mary) Shepherd, Julie (Vaughn) Avery and Nancy (Brian) Marshall.

What I haven’t heard mentioned are the eleven towers scattered across it - eleven towers that you have to till, plant, and harvest around. Heaven forbid you hit one. Planes that spray my fields can’t hit the full area because of these obstacles. I’ve got four irrigation units running to irrigate the best I can, where normally two would suffice.
