AKRON – The libraries at Tippecanoe Valley Middle School and High School will be able to expand their services with a grant from the Dekko Foundation.

Dekko is investing in a project known as Above and Beyond Learning Environments: Expanding How School Libraries Meet Student Needs.

TVSC media speaker Andrea Michel applied for the Dekko grant that pledges up to $20,000 if matched by school corporation funds, donations from the community, other grant funding, etc., secured toward the library expansion project.

According to Superintendent Brett Boggs, some of the funding is already in place. Boggs said Michel will work with Aaron Leedy, director of marketing, public relations and grant writing, and others to raise the remainder of the funding in order to take advantage of the grant opportunity.

The school board approved accepting the grant on a unanimous vote during its Monday meeting.

In other matters, the board received an update on the progress of the new Akron Elementary School building. Although there may be some finishing projects to complete, Boggs said students will be beginning their school year in the new facility. The first student date is Aug. 7.

Boggs said Akron will be holding registration on July 26 and 27 at the Akron Library so as not to interfere with the construction work at the new school. Boggs said registration is open now for those wanting to register online.
