Ora “Marie” was born in Nappanee  on April 10, 1918, to Ray and Grace Johnson Young and was a 1936 graduate of Bourbon High School.

She was married and widowed three times: Jesse Fulmer from 1942-1958, Roy Shand from 1969-1981 and Earl Graham from 1989-2005.

Marie was an assembler for General Electric, retiring in 1978 after 30 years in their employment.

She lived all her years in the larger Warsaw-Fort Wayne communities and was a resident of Grace Village Retirement Community for the past eight years.

Marie was a member of Pleasant View Bible Church and its Dorcus Missionary Group, the Elex Club of General Electric, and was a volunteer at Missionary Group in New Paris. She enjoyed seeing the world and traveled extensively within the United States, Canada, Mexico and Europe.

Although she had no children of her own, Marie and Jesse raised his nephew, Robert Mills, after the death of Robert’s mother. In addition to Robert, who survives in Lake James, others who remain are Janet and Homer Helmuth, stepdaughter and husband from Tempe, Ariz.; and four stepsons: Jerry Shand, Mesa, Ariz.; Douglas Shand, Goshen; and Mark Shand and Neal Shand, both of Fort Wayne. There also are numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to the three husbands who preceded her in passing, she was also preceded by four siblings: Marceline Workman, Harold Young, Howard Young and Ray “Jr.” Young.

Family and friends will gather for a time of sharing special thoughts and memories of this life well lived by Marie from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, July 13, at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw.

A service celebrating Marie’s life will commence at 1 p.m. in the funeral home following visitation. Elder John Erickson of Pleasant View Bible Church will officiate. Marie will be laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery next to her husband, Roy Shand.
