About 3 p.m. Friday, Bruner Road washed out. The rain damage left no way in or out for the people who live along the road.
“The water hit and it began to erode, then we lost the whole road,” said Steve Moriarty, assistant superintendent at the Kosciusko County Highway Department. He said the area received 6 inches of rain in two hours.
Highway crews worked and got the road passable at 3 or 4 a.m. Saturday, according to Moriarty.
“I’m really proud of the guys for working and hanging in there,” he said. He added they worked with other wash-outs and road closures throughout the day Friday.
Twelve roads were closed after Friday’s thunderstorm hit the county.
The Bruner Road fix is a temporary one, Moriarty said.
“We just put in a temporary pipe to make the road passable,” he said.
Moriarty said he expects to have the road back to the way it was within the next three weeks.
The National Weather Service reported the storm moved south from Lake Michigan. The highest wind speed recorded at the Warsaw Municipal Airport was 55 mph.
