Friday’s Weather Has Residents Singing The Blues

Ed Rock, Kosciusko?County Emergency Management director, said there was a bunch of trees down and some down power lines in the area as of Friday afternoon.
Bruner Road in Palestine was completely “washed out,” he said. The small road off Ind. 25 only has one way in.
“We are currently working a plan of how to get in if a fire or some other emergency comes up,” Rock said.
Most roads are open but some still have high or standing water on them, including Ind. 25.
The county received 3 to 5 inches of rain, according to Geoffrey Heidelberger, meteorologist at the National Weather Service in North Webster.
The thunderstorm began in the Lake Michigan area and pushed its ways south into Indiana. Once the cold front hit in the afternoon, the storm leveled out.
“Kosciusko?and Marshall got it the hardest,” Heidelberger said.
Rock said the county is providing sandbags at the Kosciusko County Highway Department, 2936 E. Old 30, Warsaw. Residents should provide their own shovel and manpower.
The Kosciusko County 911 Communications Center recorded 32 calls to service associated with downed trees and/or wires across roadway surfaces at the beginning of Friday morning’s storm surge throughout the day until 3 p.m., according to Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department 1st Sgt. Chad Hill, public information officer.
Late Friday night, the Kosciusko County Highway Department released a list of roads closed due to the massive amount of rain and high winds. Highway officials are planning to go out this morning to check on these areas and update any road closings.
The roads closed due to high water include Redwood from Sycamore to Tulip Tree; CR 550S from Ind. 15 to Kisney; CR 400S from Ind. 15 to Kisney; CR 1200S from CR 300E to CR 400E; CR 250S from Ind. 25 to Ferguson Road; CR 450S from Country Club to Maggee; CR 1300S from CR 300E to CR 400E; Bruner Road; Kisney from Hoppis to CR 500S; CR 400E from CR 900S to CR 850S; CR 400E from Ind. 14 to CR 1000S; and CR 1200S from Ind. 25 to CR 500S.
