Mentone Standoff Ends Peacefully
By Staff Report-
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputies and Mentone police responded Wednesday at approximately 5:29 p.m. after receiving a report of a man potentially shooting inside his residence in the Palestine Lake area. Officers arrived in the 5000 West block of CR 525S, Mentone, and were advised that a male subject had confined himself inside while threatening “suicide by cop.”
Officers determined the man had discharged a long gun and was holding a firearm near the doorway. After several officers spoke extensively to the subject via cell phone, the man gave himself up to officers without incident, and was taken to a health facility for evaluation.
Police said they were not releasing the man’s identity at this time. He wasn’t arrested, but when the reports are done, the man’s name will be released at that time.
Deputies stated that information obtained during the course of the investigation at the scene will be forwarded to the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office to determine if any charges will be forthcoming.
KCSD was assisted at the scene by the Mentone Police Department and EMS, Parkview EMS, Burket/Seward Fire Department, Claypool Police Department and the Indiana State Police.
