William L. Stillson, known by most as “Bill,” passed away at 10:25 p.m. Friday, June 30, 2017, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw. He was 83 at the time of his passing.

Born in Nappanee on Aug. 9, 1933, he was the son of Leo and Florence Beigh Stillson.

Bill attended Nappanee area schools and served briefly in the United States Air Force before being honorably discharged.

On Dec. 14, 1952, Bill was married to the late Mary Ellen Boggs in Packerton. Together they shared 63 years and started a family that includes their two daughters, Susan and Sandy.

Bill retired in 1998 as supervisor of transportation for Peabody ABC, Winona Lake. He had dedicated more than 45 years of service there before his retirement.

He was also a past master of Pierceton Masonic Lodge 377 F.&A.M. and a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking. In earlier years, when he was more able, he had enjoyed golfing and camping.

He always enjoyed a piece of pie, as it was his favorite food. He claimed to enjoy all types, but some might argue that he most enjoyed the sugar cream pies for which his wife was known. Bill enjoyed life and was known to be jokester.

Those left to appreciate good memories of Bill include his two daughters, Susan (Randy) Shepherd and Sandy Stillson, both of Warsaw; two grandsons, Andy (Stephanie) Shepherd and Jeff (Jenny) Shepherd, both of Warsaw; five great-grandchildren; and his sister, Arlene (Tom) Dettbrenner, Bremen.

In addition to his loving wife, Mary Ellen Stillson, who passed May 9, 2016, Bill was preceded in death by two siblings: brother Robert Stillson and sister Trilba Ayres.

Friends may gather at Titus Funeral Home for visitation and to share memories at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 6. A Masonic service will take place at 11:45 a.m., with his funeral service commencing at noon. Burial will follow in Warsaw’s Oakwood Cemetery.
