Ruth Una Paige, Winona Lake, will celebrate her 94th birthday on Sunday.
Ruth was born on Jan. 29, 1923, in Brooklyn, N.Y. As a teenager, she took ballroom dancing, and to this day she loves music and dancing. She lived in the greater New York City area through her early 30s. While there, she worked as a telephone operator.
Over the next four decades, Ruth served as a pastor's wife in 20 locations throughout the Midwest and Eastern United States, starting new churches with her husband. Among those churches was Syracuse Baptist Church, now known as Wawasee Heights Baptist Church, where Ruth’s husband, Jim, was the first pastor.
Ruth also worked as an insurance claims adjuster and an insurance underwriter. However, her most cherished achievement has come in her roles as wife, mother and grandmother.
Ruth has three children: retired Col. Kurt (wife Carol) Paige,  Colorado Springs, Colo.; Darlene (husband, retired Col. R. Gary) Tregaskis, Johnson City, Tenn.; and Lynn (husband Terry) Howie, Winona Lake. She has five grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, five stepgreat-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
In 1996, Ruth and Jim retired to Winona Lake, where they had lived in the 1960s while Jim was a student at Grace Seminary. Since Jim's death in 1999, after 56 years of marriage, Ruth has been an active member of Pleasant View Bible Church. She is involved with several volunteer ministries and participates in a variety of activities with friends and church members.
Ruth was "Our Lady of Kosciusko" in 2007.
As part of her celebration, Ruth will dine with family at Red Lobster, Fort Wayne.
