Wednesday Night Bridge Group
Steve and Elaine Glova won the ninth annual Warsaw Bridge Get Away Weekend Tournament.
Vitale Events hosted the weekend Jan. 7-8 in Warsaw. The event started eight years ago when weekend bridge bus trips from Warsaw to state parks, a tradition for many years, ceased.
Thirty-six bridge players enjoyed their favorite pastime while rekindling old friendships. Vitale Events provided the meals.
Prizes were awarded to the top nine couples. The winners were Steve and Elaine Glova, first; Kris Brubaker and Ron Blue, second; John and Janet Wagley, third; Audry Miller and Sam Martin, fourth; Wayne and Betty Walston, fifth; Tom Anderson and Kathy Clary, sixth; Bob Mayer and Joan Kizer, seventh; Millie Legg and Penny Henshaw, eighth; and Richard and Patricia Erdman, ninth.
Next year’s Bridge Get Away Weekend is tentatively scheduled for the first weekend of 2018. All bridge players are welcome.

Altrusa International
Bob Sanders was guest speaker at the Altrusa International of Warsaw meeting Jan. 19 at Richards Restaurant.
Sanders’ program focused on the Kosciusko County Cancer Care Fund. He said that the fund began in 1999 when a group of citizens banded together to build a fund to assist cancer patients in our county directly. Bob and his wife, Sharon, a member of Altrusa, have both been cancer patients.
The purpose of the fund is to provide financial assistance so patients can focus on treatments and recovery instead of worrying about finances. Well over $100,000 is given to families each year. Areas of assistance are rent/mortgage, utilities, car payments/repairs/insurance, food, gas, health/life insurance, medications and lodging.
The committee for the CCF organizes a gala, auction, battle of the bands, golf outing and other events to benefit the fund. Individual donations, estate gifts and memorials for loved ones also help the fund grow. Committee members are all volunteers, so all funds raised go straight to the CCF.
Altrusa International of Warsaw is part of an international nonprofit organization making local communities better through leadership, partnership and service. The local club has served the Kosciusko County area since 1973.
The club's next meeting will be at noon Thursday at the KREMC building, 370 S. CR 250E, Warsaw. Those interested in serving the community are encouraged to attend to learn more about the club's local projects.
