She was born in East Chicago on Sept. 22, 1944, the daughter of Samual and Mable Durflinger DeArmond. She was a graduate of Hammond Technical High School, class of 1962.
She married the love of her life, George “Ted” Harmon Jr., on Oct. 12, 1963. He preceded her in death on their anniversary in 2006.
She had worked at NIPSCO in Hammond, as well as H&R Block in DeMotte. She moved to Warsaw and was employed with Worth Financial for the last 15 years.
She volunteered locally for the Arc of Indiana and started a camp for the handicapped in Bruce Lake. She enjoyed spending the weekends on the lake fishing with family and friends.
She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan (spouse Randy) Van Kley, Wheatfield; grandchildren: Amber Van Kley, Chicago; Amy Van Kley, Valparaiso; and Ashley (spouse Joshua) Westphal, DeMotte; great-grandchildren: Tyler, Harmony, Austin, Kayla and Leo; a sibling, Jim DeArmond; and a sister-in-law, Peggy Jo (spouse John) Roth.
She was preceded by her parents; husband; a daughter, Kelly Ann Harmon; a brother, Don DeArmond; and a sister, Jeanette Lehman.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. R. Kansal and staff, Aperion Care, DeMotte; Clinical Home Health Care, DeMotte; Pastor Jack and Bev Worth; her nieces: Betty (spouse Bob) Schultz and Linda Ray; cherished friends Don and Joanie McAfee; caretaker Anna Westphal; along with all her friends and family who have cared for and supported Norma this past year.
Friends may visit with the family from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Jackson Funeral Service, DeMotte.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Jackson Funeral Service, DeMotte, with Pastor Jack Worth officiating. Interment will be at Wheatfield Cemetery.
