Warsaw’s Hatch Wins 4th NLC Title; Wawasee’s Brooks Wins Title

MIDDLEBURY – Warsaw’s Kyle Hatch won his fourth Northern Lakes Conference wrestling title, and Wawasee’s Germia Brooks won the conference title at 126 pounds in the NLC Tournament at Northridge High School Saturday.
Hatch had three pins in his three matches on his way to winning the 152-pound championship. Brooks pinned his first two opponents before winning a major decision for the 126-pound title.
The Warriors, who finished sixth in the team standings, had four wrestlers finish second: Ricardo Romo at 106, Garrett Stuckman at 113, Braxton Alexander at 120 and Elisha Tipping at 285.
Warsaw had three wrestlers finish fourth: Isaiah Owens (106), Brock Hogenson (113) and Riley Hogenson (126). The Tigers finished seventh in the team competition.
Both teams will compete in the Plymouth Sectional Saturday.

BUNKER HILL – Collin Meggison  and Delton Moore won championships for Manchester at the Three Rivers Conference Wrestling Tournament at Maconaquah High School Saturday.
Manchester finished second in the team standings, with Tippecanoe Valley tied for seventh and Whitko 10th.
Meggison was the champion at 145 pounds and Moore won at 160.  Wade France (152) and Quinton Moore (170) finished second; Juan Ramirez (220) was third, and Braxtin Wilson (120), Jackson Mathias (126), Braden Fortner (138), and Kevin McIntyre (285) had fourth-place finishes.
Tippecanoe Valley’s Devin Bandow was second at 120 pounds. Jordan Owens (132) and Chevy Teeter (145) garnered fourth-place finishes for Valley.
Whitko’s Caleb Busz (126) and Isaac Walters (182) were runners-up in their weight classes.
The area’s three TRC teams will compete in different sectionals Saturday. Manchester will go to the Peru Sectional, Valley goes to Plymouth and Whitko goes to Carroll in Huntertown.

Triton Repeats As HNAC Wrestling Champions
BOURBON – Triton put 13 wrestlers in the top four of 14 weight classes, with eight advancing to the championship round and three winning titles, allowing the Trojans to claim the team title at the Hooiser North Athletic Conference Tournament in the Trojan Trench Saturday.
Bryce Swihart (120 pounds), Malachi Greene (126) and Bo Snyder (170) took home conference championships.
Nate Riggins (113), Marcus Brown (132), Lee Mullett (152), Vince Helton (182 and Cam Scarberry (195) were runners-up in their weight classes. Connor Pitney (106), Wyatt Stephan (170) and Bryson Seitner (220) each finished third in their divisions, while Ryan Snyder (145) and Billy Smith (285) was fourth.
Triton will compete in the Plymouth Sectional on Saturday.

Lady Tigers Set Relay Record Against LaPorte

Warsaw’s Lady Tigers set a school record in the 400 freestyle relay during a 112-57 win over LaPorte Saturday. The Tiger boys also won 94-76 over the Slicers.
The record-setting relay team of Brenna Morgan, Taylor Gunter, Olivia Herman and Delaney Wihebrink covered the distance in 3:42.18, easily beating LaPorte’s time of 4:16.57.
Morgan also won the 50 and 100 freestyle races, Wihebrink the 200 IM and Gunter the 100 butterfly. Laurel Moeller took the 100 breaststroke, and the Lady Tigers won the other two relay races as well.
Evan Borchers won the 200 freestyle for Warsaw, with Nick Zogbi winning the 500 free and Grant Knight taking the 100 breaststroke. Warsaw also won the 400 freestyle relay.
Next up for the Tiger boys is the Northern Lakes Conference Meet, with the preliminaries on Thursday and the finals on Saturday at Concord High School. The Lady Tigers are off until they host their sectional Feb. 2 and 4.

Livengood Wins For Valley
BUNKER HILL – Tippecanoe Valley’s Olivia Livengood was the Three Rivers Conference champion in the 100 butterly, and Chase Brower was second in the 100 and 500 freestyle races at the TRC Swimming Championships Saturday.
Host Maconaquah was the team winner in both the girls and boys competitions. The Lady Vikings were fourth and the Valley boys third in the standings. Manchester was fifth on both sides.
The Lady Viking 400 freestyle relay team of Livengood, Mayde Fear, Blake McBrier and Kinzie Prater finished third.
The Vikings boys 200 medley relay team of Daniel Alexander, Mason Steven, Dakota Prater and Brower was second in the conference, and Alexander was third in the 100 butterfly.
Manchester will host Fort Wayne Canterbury on Wednesday. The Vikings boys host Plymouth  today, and both of Valley’s teams take on Maconaquah Wednesday.

Get To Know The Team: Warsaw Captains Q&A
Earlier this week, I had the privilege of going to a Warsaw football practice and speaking with four of the team’s five captains.
