NORTH MANCHESTER – Visiting Rochester and Manchester played a girls and boys basketball doubleheader. The Lady Squires won 47-44 on their senior night, and the boys routed the Zebras 86-37.
The Lady Squires assured themselves of a winning season with their victory. Cierra Carter had 22 points in her home finale, and sophomore Emma West had 10.
“It means a lot to our girls to pull out this victory on senior night. These five seniors have built up our program and came through tonight to ensure our victory,” Manchester head coach Jacob Everett said. “We will have our first winning season in five years because of the dedication from our seniors and the rest of the program. We will look to build on our second-half effort and intensity for Thursday and the sectional.”
Manchester’s girls (12-9, 4-4 TRC) will close out its regular season Thursday at 3A No. 9 Tippecanoe Valley.
The boys game saw nine different Squires score, and four players reached double figures. Junior Mason Hamby led the way with 22 points, David McAtee had 15, Devon Rooney hit four treys for 12 points, and Brayden Casper had 10 for Manchester. The Squires (3-10, 2-3 TRC) made nine three-pointers in the game, and scored 54 points by halftime.
Manchester will host Leo in a non-conference game Monday.

The Norse led 19-13 at the end of the first quarter, but Whitko rallied for a 35-31 lead at halftime. Northfield outscored the Wildcats 17-11 in the third period to take a 48-46 lead, and both teams scored 22 points in the fourth quarter.
Nate Walpole scored 29 points, and Spencer Sroufe had a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Wildcats. River West finished with 14 points.
Whitko (8-6, 3-2 TRC) is off until Jan. 28, when it travels to Bunker Hill for a conference game with conference front runner Maconaquah.

LAKEVILLE – The Triton boys basketball team was unable to successfully defend its Bi-County Tournament title, falling 50-46 to Bremen in the semifinals at LaVille High School Friday night.
The Trojans (8-5) return to Hoosier North Athletic Conference play at North Judson (2-12) Jan. 28.
