Pie-Eyed Petey’s Plans 8th Annual Event

Doors open for the eighth annual Pie-Eyed Petey’s Polar Bear Plunge at 10 a.m., with sign-up also starting at that time, according to General Manager Michele Farkas. The jump, which benefits the North Webster food bank, is at 1 p.m., Petey’s co-owner Barb Hamer said.
“It’s a good day for charity, it’s a good day for fun. Hopefully, the weather is going to be extremely nice for this time of year, and we’re looking forward to having a great, wonderful time where everyone has good, clean fun, but we have to understand we have an objective to feed people who are hungry. No child should go to bed hungry,” Hamer said.
No one under 18 is allowed to jump, Hamer said. Farkas said anyone inside the fenced area must be 21.
“They must bring in an ID, too, to be served or to jump. You need a legal, valid ID,” Hamer said.
She suggested that jumpers should remember to bring a pair of old tennis shoes or water socks, a towel to dry off with and a bag to put their wet clothes in.
Parking attendants will help with parking. The Warsaw Dive Team will be on hand for the safety of the participants.
“We ask that you bring a monetary donation or a food donation for the local food pantry,” Hamer said. “All donations need to not be expired. Paper products are a good thing to bring, too.”
Hamer said, “We would like to have a minimum of $10 to jump in the lake. It’s for charity.”
In 2016, the Polar Plunge had 120 participants and raised close to $4,000, not including canned food items and paper products.
She stressed that, “There will be no coolers, bottles or carry-in drinks allowed on the premises. Whatever you consume will have to be consumed through a bartender at this facility.”
Bags will be checked.
“Costumes are welcome,” said Roy Hamer, co-owner.
There will be a warmed dressing room in the marina with bathroom facilities.
Farkas said the menu for the day will be biscuits and gravy, chili and grilled cheese and a quarter of a large pizza. All food is $6 with part of the proceeds going to the food bank.
Screwdrivers and Bloody Marys are $5, all bottled beer is $4 and craft beers will be priced accordingly. Farkas said people may run tabs with credit cards, but to expediate service “cash is always king.”
“We are all ladies and gentlemen at this event, and it is a charity event. It is for a good cause,” Hamer said.
She thanked all the event volunteers who give up their time every year to make the food bank fundraiser possible.
“We also want to thank the North Webster food bank for supporting us in this endeavor,” Hamer stated.
The band Pickslide will perform Saturday from 6 to 10 p.m.
