By Staff Report-

Warsaw Community High School selected Matt Thacker as its new girls track and field coach at Monday’s school board meeting.
Thacker is taking over the position held by the now-retired Scott Erba. Thacker will continue to coach the boys team while in his new role.
“First of all, I would like to thank coach Scott Erba as he has been very influential in all aspects of Warsaw track and field,” said Thacker.
“Coach Erba has done a terrific job, and the hope is to continue a level of excellence that has been established within the girls track program. We are blessed with a talented coaching staff on both the boys and girls teams, as well as our middle school and elementary programs. We look forward to the challenge of both teams competing for NLC, sectional, regional and state championships.”
Thacker has coached the Warsaw boys track team for eight seasons. In those seasons, the Tigers have won the last six conference titles, captured six sectional championships and claimed four of the past six regional crowns.
Under Erba, the girls track team has won the last 11 conference titles, 10 consecutive conference crowns, and five straight regional championships.
The Lady Tigers open their indoor season March 3 with the Hoosier State Relays qualifier at Indiana Wesleyan University. Their first outdoor meet is scheduled for March 22 at Penn, a meet that also includes South Bend Washington.
Warsaw’s boys team opens its indoor season with the HSR?Qualifier at IWU on March 4, and then opens the outdoor season on March 23 by hosting East Noble and Fort Wayne Snider.
