Two Elkhart men were arrested Tuesday after Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputies say they were found with stolen guns after sleeping on a stranger’s property.
Steven Caradea, 28, Elkhart, was charged with one count of theft, a level 6 felony. Andrew Thomas, 27, Elkhart, was charged with residential entry and theft, both level 6 felonies, and one count of possession of marijuana, a class B misdemeanor.
A Kosciusko County woman called police after she saw Thomas sleeping on her porch and Caradea sleeping in his car, parked her in driveway, according to a probable cause affidavit filed with the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s  Office.
When she returned to the scene with police, Thomas was found in the home sleeping on the couch. A witness told police that the men told him they had run out of gas and were waiting for a friend to bring fuel.
While arresting Thomas, police searched him and found marijuana and .38 caliber revolver on his person. The revolver had been reported stolen from Cass County, Mich., the affidavit states.
Upon searching the vehicle, police found a 9mm Smith & Wesson on Caradea. The gun was reported stolen from Elkhart.
Both men were arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail. Each man’s bond was set at $5,250, and both were still in jail as of this morning.
