John Alan Groat, 67, a lifetime resident of Warsaw, passed away on Jan. 10, 2017 in his home. 
He was the son of John R. and Ethel L. Anderson Groat. He was a 1967 graduate of Warsaw Community High School.
He was married to Joyce E. Easterday on June 26, 1971, in Columbia City’s Faith Baptist Church. She survives in Fort Wayne.
He had worked for DePuy as a machinist for more than 30 years. He was a former member of Warsaw Wesleyan Church and enjoyed congregational singing at church. He enjoyed many types of music, especially traditional Christian hymns.
Those who survive include his wife of 45 years, Joyce Groat, Fort Wayne; daughter and son-in-law, Ethel and Rod Massing, Fort Wayne; two grandsons, Kevin Massing, Columbus, Ohio, and Donavin Massing, Fort Wayne; and his brother, Robert Groat, Richland, Mo. 
He was preceded by his mother, Ethel Groat; father, John R. Groat; stepmother, Nellie Groat; and two sisters, Alma Ragan and Eva Engle.
A memorial service is planned at a later date. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, assisted the family with arrangements.
