Warrior Wrestlers Earn Win Over Elkhart Memorial

ELKHART – Seven Wawasee wrestlers won their matches Thursday; just enough for the Warriors to take a 34-32 Northern Lakes Conference win at Elkhart Memorial.
Winners for Wawasee were Ricardo Romo (106 pounds), Garrett Sherman (113), Germia Brooks (126), Jeremiah Ponsler (160), Damien Rodriguez (182), Luke Hensley (195), and Elisha Tipping (220).
Wawasee head coach Frank Bumgardner said he believed it was the first time the Warriors beat the Crimson Chargers in recent memory.
“Tonight we performed much better than in previous weeks,” he said. “We’re still trying to get healthy, but we’re improving.
“This was a big win for our program, as it might be the first time we have ever beat Memorial in a dual since they joined the conference in 1999.”
The Warriors improved to 21-7 in duals this season, 4-3 in the conference, and will compete in the Adams Central Invitational on Saturday.

Carroll Edges Wawasee Gymnasts
HUNTERTOWN – Reagan Atwood  finished second in the all-around, and Wawasee dropped a 106.800-102.725 decision in a gymnastics meet at Carroll Thursday.
Atwood was first in the floor exercise, second on the beam, third on the vault and sixth on the bars. Jada Parzygnot was third on the bars, fifth on the beam, and finished sixth in the all-around. Alyssa Minnix was seventh in the all-around, won by Carroll’s Savannah Shearer.
“We were looking forward to meeting Carroll because they are always very strong,” Lady Warrior head coach Nika Prather said. “It was a good meet.
“We’ve started the season on the right track, and as the season progresses I think you’ll see the Lady Warriors progress as well.”
Wawasee will compete in the Plymouth Invitational on Saturday.

Vikings 1-2 In Triple Dual
AKRON – Tippecanoe Valley’s wrestlers won once and lost twice in a triple dual match Thursday at Valley. The Vikings earned a 39-36 win over Caston, lost 48-36 to LaVille and 45-33 to South Bend St. Joseph.
Isaac Randall, Dylan Warner and Joseph Irons went 3-0 on the evening for the Vikings, with Randall recording two wins with pins. Haley Hoover, Jacob Eherenman, Devin Bandow, Jon Humes and Tyler Manuszak were 2-1 for Valley, while Chevy Teeter won one match.
Valley will compete in the Rochester Super Eight tournament on Saturday.

Zebras Down Wildcats
ROCHESTER – Logan Busz, Kaleb Busz, Issac Walters and Bhrett Weese won for Whitko in a 60-21 loss at Rochester in a Three Rivers Conference wrestling match Thursday.
Whitko will be back in action Saturday at the Goshen Invitational.

Lady Cougars Drop 38-33 Decision To MCAC
WINONA LAKE – Lakeland Christian’s Hope Fancil had 14 points in a 38-33 loss to visiting Mishawaka Christian Athletic Club Thursday.
Jess Slone added nine points and 11 rebounds for the Lady Cougars, and Melissa Goss had seven points and 11 rebounds.
The Lady Cougars (8-9) will host Victory Christian at 6 p.m. today.
