SYRACUSE – Former Wawasee girls basketball head coach Kem Zolman will receive the Northern Lakes Conference Outstanding Service award at halftime of Saturday’s home game with NorthWood.
In Zolman’s 18 seasons Wawasee won five sectional titles, two regionals and a semistate championship in 2007. In NLC play, Zolman’s teams won the conference four times and the conference tournament twice.
Zolman was chosen NLC Coach of the Year three times, won district coach of the year twice and was a head coach for the Indiana All-Star team in 2008.
Before taking the reigns of the girls basketball program, Zolman served as an assistant coach in the boys program for 10 seasons. He retired from coaching at the end of last season as the winningest coach in Wawasee history.
Secrest Breaks Scoring Record
AKRON – Tippecanoe Valley senior Anne Secrest became the Lady Viking basketball program’s all-time leading scorer Friday at the Lakeland Invitational in LaGrange.
The Youngstown State (Ohio) commit is now at 1,437 points, and passed Rebekah Parker’s 1,418 points for the top spot on the list.
Valley To Honor Military, First Responders
AKRON – Tippecanoe Valley Athletics will honor veterans, active military and local first responders on Friday at the boys varsity basketball game when the Vikings host Northfield. Any qualified individual can show identification for free admission to the game and will be recognized at halftime of the varsity game for their service to our country and communities.

Dunes Volleyball Offers Athletic Training
ROLLING PRAIRIE – The Dunes Volleyball Club will offer athletic training on Saturdays throughout January for boys and girls from age 3 through eighth grade. The program includes work on speed and agility, hand-eye development, introduction to the sport of volleyball with an emphasis on teamwork, hustle and fun. Membership is not necessary to participate in the program.
The cost is $25 for ages 3-5 and for first and second-graders. Three separate, older age groups will cost $50, and all sessions will be completed by 11 a.m. each Saturday.
