Triton Wraps Up Outright HNAC Title With 50-37 Win

Johnson scored 11 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, including 12 off the defensive glass. Classmate Zac Pitney led all scorers with 14 points, and Nate Flenar added 12 points for the Trojans.
Triton bolted out to a 12-2 lead at the end of the first quarter, and outscored Knox 19-7 in the third quarter to put the game out of reach. The Trojans held a 44-22 lead at the end of the third quarter.
The conference champs outscored the home team 34-14 in the paint, offsetting a 15-3 edge Knox had in points from beyond the arc. At one point in the game Triton had a 20-2 run, and outrebounded Knox 33-17 in the game.
In the junior varsity contest, Triton closed out the season with a 48-33 win over Knox. Three Trojans scored in double figures; Tye Orsund had a game-high 16 points, with Delano Shumpert scoring 11 off the bench, and Ethan Berry adding 10 points in the winning cause.
Triton hosts its 1A sectional next week and drew a bye in the first round. Culver Community and North Miami play in the tournament opener on Tuesday, with the winner taking on the Trojans in Friday’s 6:30 p.m. semifinal game.
