INDIANAPOLIS – There are several rematches for area teams, and two area squads drew first-round byes in the boys basketball sectional pairings released Sunday evening by the IHSAA.
Warsaw opens its defense of the 4A sectional title at 7:30 p.m. March 1 against Northern Lakes Conference foe Northridge at North Side Gym in Elkhart. The Tigers downed the Raiders 68-46 in Middlebury on Jan. 6.
With a win the Tigers would face the winner of the early game from March 1 between Penn and host Elkhart Central. On the other side of the bracket, Concord and Goshen face off on Feb. 28, with the winner facing Elkhart Memorial in the first semifinal March 3. The championship game will be at 7 p.m. March 4.
Tippecanoe Valley will face off against host Wawasee in the opening game of the 3A Sectional on Feb. 28. The two will square off on Friday to close out the regular season, then meet again four nights later. It’s the fourth time in five years the two teams will have played back-to-back games; and the other year (2015) Valley had a bye and faced Wawasee in the semifinal.
The Valley-Wawasee winner faces West Noble in the first semifinal March 3. On the other side of the bracket, NorthWood takes on Lakeland in the second game Feb. 28, with the winner taking on Fairfield in the second semifinal. The title game is set for 7:30 p.m. March 4.
Whitko opens its postseason at the 2A Westview Sectional against Central Noble in the second game game March 1. The winner gets the victor of the early game between Fremont and Westview in the second semifinal March 3.
The opposite side of the bracket has Prairie Heights facing Bremen in the tourney opener Feb. 28, with the winner facing LaVille in the first semifinal. The championship game is scheduled for 7 p.m. March 4.
Manchester opens the 2A Oak Hill Sectional against Cass on Feb. 28. The Winner takes on Rochester in the first semifinal March 3.
Wabash and host Oak Hill play in the first game March 1, and Northfield faces Southwood in the nightcap. Those winners face each other in the second semifinal. The title game will be at 7:30 p.m. March 4.
Triton drew a bye in the first round of the sectional it hosts, and will face the winner of the Feb. 28 Culver Community/North Miami game in the semifinals at 6 p.m. March 3. South Bend Career Academy and Argos face off in the first game March 1, with the winner taking on either Oregon-Davis or South Central (Union Mills).
The Triton Sectional title game will be at 7 p.m. March 4.
At the 1A Bethany Christian Sectional, Lakeland Christian Academy drew a bye and will take on either Fort Wayne Blackhawk or Elkhart Christian in the first semifinal on March 3. Lakewood Park faces the host Bruins in the other first round game on Feb. 28, with that winner facing Hamilton in the semifinals. The championship game will be at 7:30 p.m. March 4.
