The Lancers (14-15, 6-11 Crossroads League) were within five points of USF in the second half, but the Cougars (20-9, 10-7 CL) could not be slowed offensively.
USF shot 59 percent for the game, including over 50 percent in each half. Grace, conversely, hit 43 percent from the floor as a team.
Logan Godfrey produced 16 points and seven boards, and Jaret Sons had 14 points in 16 minutes off the bench for the Lancers.
The Cougars got off to a fast start, scoring on their first five possessions to take an early 10-4 lead. St. Francis made its first seven shots, forcing Grace to burn an early timeout, trailing 16-6.
Braxton Linville helped Grace claw back into the game by scoring two straight buckets in the paint, but the Cougars refused to surrender their lead.
Midway into the half, Jaret Sons buried two triples to begin stretching the Cougars’ defense. He hit his third trey of the half in the final minute, helping Grace go into halftime behind by only five at 45-40.
Grace stayed within striking distance in the second half. Logan Godfrey scored a few shots down low early in the period, and Tre Olive provided steady offense with his slashing drives into the paint.
With 12:53 on the clock, Sons hit his fourth three-pointer of the game to make the score 60-53.
But the Cougars used a 16-8 run over the next six minutes of play to earn a 15-point advantage with 6:38 left in regulation.
Grace was unable to produce enough offense down the stretch to come back. Linville scored seven points over the final 4:43, but he was the only source of offense for the Lancers.
Linville had 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting, and Olive scored 11 of his 13 points from the foul line while adding three steals.
Sons’ 14 points came on 4-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc, and Godfrey shot 6 of 9 from the floor.
Erik Bowen led all players with nine rebounds, and Charlie Warner added eight points.
The Lancers, who are already secured a place in next week’s Crossroads League Tournament, will end the regular season on Saturday at Taylor. The women’s game of the doubleheader starts at 1 p.m. with the men’s game to follow at 3 p.m.
Grace will either be the No. 7 or 8 seed in the tournament, depending on Saturday’s results.
