Sandra K. “Sandy” Groninger, 75, passed away at 3:12 a.m. Feb. 14, 2017, in Avalon Village, Ligonier, after being afflicted by dementia/Alzheimer’s disease for eight years.
She was born June 29, 1941, in Muncie, to Bill and Ruby Dunkin Dorrell. She married Thomas “Tom” Groninger on March 8, 1964, in Atwood; she was a devoted wife for almost 53 years.
She was a 1959 graduate of Mentone High School and spent most of her life in Kosciusko County.
She was co-owner and secretary of G & G Hauling & Excavating, Warsaw. As Tom would say, “She took care of everything. I just had to do the work.”
She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, Atwood. She loved to cook for the “boys” at the shop as well as for church and the Atwood Lions Club; she enjoyed mushroom hunting and liked to knit. Most of all, she will be remembered for her sacrificial love as she would gladly drop whatever she was doing to help family and friends — especially for her children, grandchildren and the G & G family.
She will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas “Tom” Groninger, Warsaw; a daughter, Teresa (spouse Joey) Winnett, Pauls Valley, Okla.; two sons, Cary (spouse Kathy) Groninger, Mentone, and Richard “Rich” (spouse Sheila) Groninger, Warsaw; eight grandchildren: Austin (spouse Savannah) Stephens, Davis, Okla.; Paige and Whitney Winnett, both of Elmore City, Okla.; Leigh, Jay and Joel Groninger, all of Mentone; and Sam and Rilee Groninger, both of Warsaw; a great-grandson, Tucker Stephens, at home; a sister, Beatrice Teel, Noblesville; and a brother, Fred Dorell, Warsaw.
She was preceded by a sister, Mary Hawk; and a brother, Robert “Bob” Klus.
The family would like to express special thanks and appreciation to the staff of Avalon Village for the excellent care they gave Sandy.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw. Pastor Jim Lawson, Otterbein United Methodist Church, Atwood, and Pastor Jerry Thomas, former pastor of Otterbein United Methodist Church, will officiate.
A private family service is planned.
Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Warsaw.

It’s no surprise to me one of the least competently managed NFL franchises drafted Shedeur Sanders. The Cleveland Browns – not the REAL Cleveland Browns in MY heart and mind – made the Colorado Buffaloes quarterback the 144th pick in the 2025 NFL draft two Saturdays ago.
