EAST CHICAGO – Warsaw’s Kyle Hatch improved his record to 47-0 on the season, and Wawasee’s Braxtin Alexander finished second at 120 pounds at Saturday’s East Chicago Semistate Wrestling Tournament.
Both advance to the state finals beginning Friday at 6 p.m. at Banker’s Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
Hatch, a senior wrestling at 152 pounds, began his day by pinning his first two opponents to assure a place in Indy. He then won his semifinal match and beat Kassius Breathitt of South Bend Riley 8-2 in a rematch of last week’s reginal final. Hatch will make his third state finals appearance on Saturday.
Alexander won his first three matches of the day before falling in the final to Tylor Triana of Hobart.
Wawasee’s Garrett Stuckman, Germia Brooks and Jeremiah Dilley went 1-1 in the tournament, helping Wawasee to a 10th-place team finish.
Triton’s Malachi Greene won his first-round match, but fell in the quarterfinals. Marcus Brown dropped his first-round match.
New Haven Semistate
Manchester’s brothers duo of Quentin and Delton Moore lost in the quarterfinals of the New Haven Semistate at Allen County
War Memorial Coliseum Saturday. Braxtin Wilson and Wade France dropped their first-round matches.
