Taxing units across the state have been mandated by the Indiana State Board of Accounts to adapt new internal control standards and define the minimum level of unaccounted money that would trigger a report.
Based on the recommendation from county attorney Chad Miner, the commissioners chose to use $500 as a minimum that needs to be reported.
In the past, the county handed financial shortages on an individual basis and shortages were reported to the commissioners, said Marsha McSherry, county administrator.
The matter was addressed with little discussion.
In other matters, the commissioners accepted a recommendation from county highway superintendent Scott Tilden to buy two pickup trucks from Warsaw Buick GMC, 2777 N. Detroit St.
The county sought bids for three different pickup trucks with highly detailed specifications.
The two trucks approved for purchase Tuesday were priced at $31,908 and $33,895. The county chose not to participate in a trade-in.
The commissioners opened about a dozen bids for the three trucks last month.
Plans to purchase a third truck were delayed after Tilden said he needed more time to review the bids.
Tilden could recommend rejecting all bids and then rebidding for the one remaining truck.
He is expected to have an answer at the commissioners’ meeting on Feb. 21
