NORTH?MANCHESTER – The town of North Manchester’s 457 Retirement Plan was terminated as of Wednesday.
When this plan was first established, it was an additional retirement option that simply required payroll reduction. Now that the town council uses direct deposit, the plan is no longer the most effective resolution that could be carried out. Only four people still contribute to this plan.
The money saved from the 457 Retirement Plan will be moved to an individual retirement account for them.
The town is in need of a new sewer cleaning machine. Town Manager Adam Penrod explained that the condition of the machine is no longer operating to its highest standard. To repair the 15-year-old machine would cost thousands.
It was decided by the town council that it would be best to sell the current sewer cleaner to a smaller town. The town cannot function without this machine.
When the sewer cleaner failed in the past, the town had to ask Wabash County for assistance.
The town council approved the motion to get bidding prices for a newer sewer cleaning machine.
Maple Park has been sold by the Manchester Community Schools to a new owner who wants to develop the land. The Parks and Recreation Department has been given the task of removing the playground equipment on the property.
Instead of getting rid of the playground equipment, the plan is for it to be moved to the boat launch area in development. There was a space already reserved for a new play area. This will provide an instant playground.
There will be a Valentine’s Daddy Daughter Dance coming up. It will take place Feb. 18 from 3:30 to 5:30 and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Scout Hall, Warvel Park. Tickets are $10 per couple and $2 per extra daughter.
The attire to be worn is Sunday best.
