Tippecanoe Valley Wins Concord Invitational

DUNLAP – Class 3A No. 4 Tippecanoe Valley won a loaded Concord Invitational girls basketball tournament Saturday with a 58-56 win over West Noble in the semifinal and beating Concord 74-61 for the title.

Addy Miller, Sophie Bussard and Asia O’Connor led the way for the Lady Vikings in the opener. Miller had team highs with 20 points and seven rebounds. Bussard had 16 points and six rebounds and O’Connor had 11 points and six boards for Valley.

Bussard had a monster game in the title tilt, scoring 32 points to go with six rebounds. Miller added 21 oints and Emily Peterson had 15 for the Lady Vikings.

Now 14-1, Valley resumes Three Rivers Conference play Thursday, hosting Northfield.



Lady Warriors Split At Plymouth Shootout


PLYMOUTH – Wawasee split a pair of games in the Plymouth Shootout girls basketball Saturday, defeating Brebeuf Jesuit 63-17 in the semifinals and falling 52-44 to 3A No. 11 Norwell.

The Lady Warriors had four players in double figures in the win over Brebeuf. Aubrey Kuhn had 22, Casey Schroeder 14, Hannah-Marie Lamle 12 and Caitlin Wortinger 11 in the winning effort.

Schroeder paced Wawasee with 14 points and Kuhn added 12 in the title game.

“Norwell was able to capitalize on our fourth-quarter miscues,” Wawasee coach Matt Carpenter said. “We Battled back in the fourth quarter after a sluggish third quarter, but Norwell was able to seal it by going 8 of 10 from the free throw line.

“We showed growth in our two games, and will look to utilize that growth during a busy January.”

Wawasee (8-7) resumes Northern Lakes Conference play Saturday at NorthWood.



Wawasee 2nd At Elkhart Central Meet

ELKHART – Host and likely best sectional opponent Elkhart Central edged Wawasee for the team title at the Blazer Holiday Invitational gymnastics meet Saturday. Central’s total of 105.80 edged the Lady Warriors’ 102.05 in the eight-team meet.

Reagan Atwood was third all-around with a 8.80 in the vault, 8.25 on the bars, 8.80 on the beam and a 9.20 in the floor exercise.

Jada Parzygnot was sixth and Alyssa Minnix ninth in the all-around for Wawasee.

Next up for the Lady Warriors is a dual meet with visiting Angola on Jan. 9.



Two Wildcats Wrestlers Place


SOUTH WHITLEY – Whitko placed two wrestlers in its 16-team invitational Saturday.

Freshman Kyle Reed was fifth at 132 pounds, and senior Kaleb Busz sixth at 132.
