WABASH – In the final game of the opening round of the boys Wabash County Tournament, Wabash exploded for 19 points in the second overtime to finally beat Manchester 80-72 Friday night at Northfield High School.

The Squires held a 30-24 lead at halftime before the Apaches came back to take a two-point advantage heading into the final period.

Each team tallied nine points in the first four-minute extra period before the Apaches finished off the game in the second overtime.

Mason Hamby had 21 points for the Squires, and his brother Weston added 19. Brayden Casper contributed 13 points.

Wabash’s Trenton Daughtry led all scorers with 35 points, including 13 in the overtime periods.

Manchester (2-6) will face host Northfield in the third-place game at 4:45 p.m. today.

In the junior varsity tourney, Thane Creager had 20 points, Austin Underwqood 14 and Mason Meyer 13 to lead Manchester to a 66-47 win over Wabash. The Squires will face Southwood this morning for the JV title.

Lady Squires Fall In County Tournament

WABASH – Sydney Day had 13 points and Erika Kendall added 10 for Manchester in its 42-32 girls basketball loss to Wabash in the Wabash County Tournament Friday at Northfield High School.

Day also had a team-high nine rebounds in the contest.

The Lady Squires fell behind by five points after the first quarter and continued to play hard even though they didn’t close the gap, according to Manchester coach Jacob Everett.

”I’m proud of the girls’ ability to make adjustments at halftime and come out with much better execution in the second half,” he said. “We just didn’t get enough stops to get over the hump. We had some great leadership tonight and we will be ready to get back at it tomorrow.”

Manchester will take on Southwood in the third-place game at 3 p.m. today.

The Lady Squire junior varsity advanced to the title game of its tournament with a 26-19 win over Wabash. Kennidy Lauer led the way with 5 points. Manchester plays Northfield for the title this morning.
