The Salvation Army is wrapping up its 96th annual Christmas campaign in Kosciusko County.

Though the final numbers are not in, 135 families have been assisted, with 376 children and teens helped through Angel Tree. Gifts were distributed to all the care facilities in the area, and the Choice Pantry helped with food with over 250 families.

"The Salvation Army ‘invaded’ Kosciusko County in 1921," according to Ken Locke, community ministries director.  "Since those early days we have given help to those in need in the name of Jesus."

The organization has changed its focus to the Pathway of Hope program, working with families to move from poverty to sufficiency. Fifteen families worked on goals in 2017.

"Most important we want to thank everyone who give and volunteers to make this happen," Major Bill Welch noted. "We couldn't do any of this without the support of many in Kosciusko County."

The Salvation Army is an international movement that started on the East End of London in 1865 and came to the United States in 1880.
