Gloria Miller posted, “I think I have lost all faith in the public school transportation! They forgot to drop off Dawson at his school and so he sat on the bus for 4½ hours alone in the bus garage! Seriously how does that even happen! And now they’re trying to smooth things over ... ugh I just can’t even! What if it had been colder or even 90 degrees outside.”
Miller told WNDU Channel 16 that it should have been hard to miss him since he normally sits in the very front seat of the bus. She also said he wouldn’t have spoken up if the bus driver left because he has autism and is mostly nonverbal.
She assumed the bus driver took her son to Leesburg-Oswego Preschool, the usual routine.

Wednesday evening, Miller said the evening bus driver called and said a teacher said the boy never made it to school. He was found about 10 minutes later sleeping in the bus.
According to the WNDU story, the incident kept Miller up all night and she spoke with an attorney, but because the boy wasn’t hurt, she didn’t have many options.
Miller said the school district apologized and wants to make it up to the Millers. She said she’d like to see changes so it doesn’t happen again.
In a provided statement, Warsaw Community Schools said its “utmost priority is to ensure the safety and security of our students. When proper policy and procedure is followed, the bus is inspected by the driver at the end of the route to ensure no student is left on the bus. This incident is currently being investigated and the substitute driver of the route has been suspended pending the completed investigation.”
