Steven R. Fraley passed away at home at 8:15 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, 2017, after a battle with lung cancer. He was 70 years old.

A lifetime resident of Warsaw, Steve was born Dec. 27, 1946, at McDonald Hospital in Warsaw. He was the son of the late Donald Fraley and Patricia Jane Johnson Fraley and was a graduate of Warsaw High School, class of 1965.

Steve joined the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era in August 1965 and was honorably discharged in August 1969. He served at U.S. bases in Washington, D.C., and Lewes, Del., with sea duty at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

On June 20, 1967, he married his best friend and true love, Evelyn Rose, in Salisbury, Md. Together they cherished more than 50 years.

Steve retired from Dalton Foundries in 2000 after 34½ years of service in the finishing, maintenance and purchasing departments.

He was a lifetime member of the following service organizations: American Legion Post 49, Warsaw; AMVETS Post 2919, South Whitley; Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Post 15, Goshen; and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 1126, Warsaw. He was also a volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society and Mobile Ministries of Warsaw, where he took cancer patients to their doctor’s appointments. In addition, he volunteered delivering hot meals to the elderly and with the DAV’s Northern Indiana Transportation Network, taking fellow veterans to appointments in Marion, Fort Wayne and even Indianapolis.

Steve was a die-hard New York Yankees, Chicago Bears and Notre Dame Fighting Irish fan. He enjoyed collecting baseball cards, football cards and other sports memorabilia. He cherished his family and enjoyed all the good times spent together. He especially enjoyed playing horseshoes and corn hole games with family at home and with others while tailgating at sporting events. He also enjoyed weekend getaways and long-distance road trips.

Steve is survived by his wife, Evelyn Fraley; son, Kevin (Leah) Fraley; and daughter, Tammy (Clint) Kain, all of Warsaw. He is also survived by his brother, Don Fraley, South Bend; and sister, Tanya Weirick, Palm Bay, Fla.

He was “PoPo” to grandsons Cameron, Bryce and Ryker Fritzel and Broc Fraley, and is also survived by nephews Pat (Tina) Fraley, Milford, and Vince (Rebecca) Weirick, Palm Coast, Fla.; and niece, Lisa Reynolds, New York.

Services will be officiated by Chaplain Jerry Hartman of American Legion Post 258, Pierceton, and will be at Titus Funeral Home, 2000 E. Sheridan St., Warsaw, at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 22.

Visitation will take place from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. The family has requested that any fans wear their favorite Notre Dame jersey.
