WCHS Plans 'Ron Henry Night' Friday

By Staff Report-

The Warsaw Community High School Athletic Department is proclaiming Friday as “Ron Henry Night.”

Henry, the longtime public address announcer for multiple sports at WCHS and Grace College, will be honored between the JV and varsity boys basketball games in the Tiger Den against rival Wawasee.

Henry began his announcing career in 1956 at Grace College and continued to announce games for the Lancers until he retired in 1996.

In 1982, Henry added Warsaw football and JV and varsity boys basketball to his list. He started announcing JV and varsity girls basketball games in 2007, and then added baseball in 2008.

Over the course of his career, which includes 90-plus sports seasons, Henry has announced an estimated 1,600 games.

In that time, Henry has only missed one football game, five or six boys basketball games, and three girls basketball games.

WSJV Fox-28 recognized Henry in 2000 and gave him the Marvin Wood Memorial Award.

The National Association of Sports Public Address Announcers has also recognized Henry for his 61 years of service.

WCHS Athletics invites all WCHS and Grace College alumni to the Tiger Den Friday night to show appreciation for Ron Henry.
