After slipping out of police handcuffs, a Warsaw woman being charged with criminal trespass is now facing an additional charge of escape.

Amber Lee Wirsing, 26, of 519 W. Winona Ave., #G, Warsaw, faces a Class A misdemeanor charge of criminal trespass and a level 5 felony charge of escape.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed in the Kosciusko Circuit/Superior Court, on Nov. 20 a Warsaw Police officer responded to a report of Wirsing allegedly trespassing at the Victory Hotel, West Jefferson Street. She had received a trespassing warning Nov. 13 by police after a complaint by Victory Hotel management.

On Nov. 20, the officer arrived at the hotel and found Wirsing on the property. She said she knew she had trespassed, but was there to obtain some of her belongings.

Wirsing was arrested for trespass, handcuffed and placed in a patrol vehicle. The affidavit states the officer noticed the handcuffs appeared too large for Wirsing’s hands.

The officer then went back inside the hotel and came back outside and found the handcuffs on the ground beside the vehicle. Wirsing had escaped the patrol vehicle by removing her hands from the handcuffs, rolling down the car window and exiting the vehicle.

The officer searched for Wirsing but could not find her, the affidavit states.

Wirsing was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 12:25 a.m. Monday. Her bond was set at $10,250.
