Melvin Johnson, 72, Shell Knob, Mo., was traveling north when his 2009 Chevy 2500 pickup truck went off the roadway and struck a mailbox and the utility pole, according to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department. Johnson reported he was feeling ill at the time of the accident.
Damage was estimated to be $10,000 to $25,000.
The NIPSCO power outage map at www.nipscooutages.com reported 520 customers were affected. The KCSD reported the traffic lights at the intersections of CR 200S and Ind. 15 and Rozella Road and Ind. 15 were not functioning, but the traffic light at Buffalo Street (Ind. 15) and Prairie Street was operational.
The first reported outage was at 7:27 a.m. NIPSCO estimated a majority of the customers would have power restored by 10 a.m. today, with all power back on by about 12:15 p.m.
Shortly after 9 a.m. today, Warsaw Community Schools Superintendent Dr. David Hoffert said Eisenhower Elementary School and Warsaw Community High School were affected by the outage and that officials were told power would be restored shortly.
ISTEP testing was scheduled for today at the high school, but that was moved to Friday because of the outage, Hoffert said.
