Lady Vikings Get Conference Win At Wabash In Overtime

WABASH – Sophie Bussard scored 25 points to lead Tippecanoe Valley to a 59-53 overtime win over Wabash in a Three Rivers Conference girls basketball clash Saturday night.

Valley owned a 10-point lead at the end of the first quarter, but Wabash erased all but one point by halftime, and tied the game headed into the fourth quarter.

Emily Peterson hit 7 of 8 free throws on her way to a 16-point night. Mackenzie Woodcox had a team-high seven rebounds.

Valley rolled to a 35-21 win in the junior varsity contest. Karina Young led the Lady Vikes with 10 points.

Now 8-1, Valley travels to Bourbon to take on Triton Wednesday night.

LCA Sweeps Hamilton Hoops Teams

HAMILTON – Lakeland Christian’s girls and boys basketball teams both won non-conference games at Hamilton Saturday. The Lady Cougars routed the Lady Marines 77-18, then the LCA boys came back from a six-point halftime deficit to win 57-46.

Hope Fancil and Tori Calizo had double-doubles. Fancil led all scorers with 27 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for the Lady Cougars. Calizo had 14 points and 11 rebounds. Anna Reimink had 10 points and four boards, and Jess Slone had eight points and a team-high 15 rebounds in the winning effort.

In the boys game, the Cougars trailed 32-26 at intermission, but held the Marines to 14 second-half points. Josh McDaniel and Jake Harmon hit four three-point shots each, finishing with 24 and 16 points, respectively. Elijah Raymond hit a pair of treys and finished with eight points and six rebounds.

The LCA boys will take a 2-2 record into its game at Benton HomeSchool Tuesday night. The Lady Cougars (5-3) host Bethany Christian Tuesday night.

Lady Squires Get Three Rivers Conference Win

NORTH MANCHESTER – Erika Kendall had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, and Sydney Day had nine points and a team-high 13 boards for Manchester in its 38-27 Three Rivers Conference girls basketball win over visiting Northfield Saturday night.

Kennedy Fierstos and Emma West had seven points each, and Kiera Hatfield had four points to round out the Lady Squire scoring.

Manchester trailed 18-15 at halftime, then outscored the Lady Norse 23-9 in the second half.

“Our team executed our game plan very well tonight. After a week of great practice, the girls played really well. We were able to take away their first offensive option and rebound well,” coach Jacob Everett said. “Offensively we were patient and got quality shots in our offense. I’m very proud of our girls tonight and our great team win.”

Manchester (4-5, 2-0 TRC) travels to Huntington North for a non-conference game Tuesday.

BOURBON – Hannah Wanemacher just missed a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds for Triton in its 40-36 Hoosier North Athletic Conference girls basketball loss to visiting Knox Saturday.

Knox led 20-19 at halftime, then outscored the Lady Trojans 11-6 in the third quarter. Triton was icy from beyond the arc, hitting just 1 of 14 shots. Neither team shot free throws well, combining to go 11 of 36 from the chairity stripe.

Lindsey Simpson led all scorers with 19 points for Knox before she  fouled out.

Triton (5-6, 1-1 HNAC) hosts 3A No. 4 Tippecanoe Valley Wednesday night at the Trojan Trench.
